Overview

Walk Through Time ("we", "us", or "our") is a personal philosophy companion that delivers daily curated quotes and deep-dive content. We collect only what is necessary to personalize your experience and improve the app. We do not sell your data.

Information We Collect

  • Account information — email address and display name when you register.
  • Usage data — quotes you save, dismiss, or read; time spent reading; onboarding preferences (philosophical interests and traditions).
  • Journal entries — any reflections you write in response to daily prompts. These are private to you.
  • Email preferences — whether you subscribe to daily quote emails or weekly digests.
  • Session data — a signed session cookie used to keep you logged in.
  • API tokens — if you use the iOS app, a secure token is stored on your device to authenticate widget requests.

How We Use Your Information

  • To personalize your daily quote recommendations using our engagement-based algorithm.
  • To send transactional emails (account verification, password reset) and, if subscribed, daily quote and weekly digest emails.
  • To track aggregate app usage for product improvement.
  • To power the iOS home screen widget with your personalized daily quote.

Data Storage

Your data is stored in a secure SQLite database hosted on Fly.io infrastructure in the EU (London region). Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored in plain text. API tokens are cryptographically random and stored securely.

Third-Party Services

  • SendGrid — used to send emails. Your email address is transmitted to SendGrid for delivery. See SendGrid's Privacy Policy.
  • Affiliate links — book and course recommendations may include affiliate links to Amazon, Bookshop.org, Coursera, or Udemy. Clicking these links may set cookies on those sites per their own privacy policies.

Your Rights

  • Access — you can view all your saved quotes, journal entries, and interaction history in your profile.
  • Deletion — you can permanently delete your account and all associated data from your profile settings page, or via the iOS app settings. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.
  • Email opt-out — unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time via the link in any email or in your profile settings.
  • Data portability — contact us to request an export of your data.

Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from Profile → Settings. On iOS, go to the in-app Settings screen and tap "Delete my account". Deletion permanently removes your account, saved quotes, journal entries, interaction history, and API tokens.

Children's Privacy

Walk Through Time is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
